we played summer's flute to the last note. and danced across the horizons of space and time together. we laughed and cried until it hurt and it felt good. and we ran out of breath. and though death was always there in the corner looking on, he too joined in the dance. the lives of friends have crossed and now departed and we are all of us richer because of this time. goodbye friends. we carry your music in our hearts.

just visiting

i have been feeling the melancholy of late. with an imminent move approaching, and all of the deadlines to make it happen, along with the realization that there is some finality to some of this, everything has taken on a much darker tone than i expected. today at work i stopped in the bathroom to listen to a song we play on air all the time. i realized i wouldn't be here much longer and that sense you get that the death of something is fast approaching suddenly hit me very hard.
i know that it's all good. God and life has shuffled the deck plenty in the past, and i know there's only more to come. when i first came to live in this area i felt like tom hanks in castaway and worked like mad to make my escape. eventually i realized there was no quick escape and that i'd have to wait around on that island a lot longer than i expected. but now as i'm clearing the coral reef and looking back i feel the same way chuck noland did as he stared back one last time at the island that had been his home. we're headed for deeper waters now and the last chance to turn back is quickly fading in the distance.
"dear Lord be good to me
the sea is so wide
and my boat is so small"

apartment cars 002

i hadn't anticipated posting another one of these so soon, however opportunity and the winds of change have altered my plans. as it turns out we'll soon be leaving the friendly confines of rocklin's sunset strip, and heading for the cool breezes of bayside san leandro, from which we came some 5 years ago now. more on that later, but now let's talk about this fantastic dakota.
i almost missed it as i went strolling around the grounds the other day. in fact i wasn't even sure it would show up in a photo. but it certainly is an eye catcher. i imagine as it rolls silently along the backroads stalking elk and deer, they never have a chance. as i examined the custom camo paint a little closer i was slightly puzzled. were these leaf stencils they used or actual leaves? and why hadn't i seen this one before? is it a new arrival or had the driver been on an extended trip hiding out from atf agents?

anyway, i am curious about the owner, and hopefully i'll have a chance to run into him before we depart. with all the wildlife i've spotted around our apartments of late, i might even spot him down on the fire trail, crossbow in hand, moving in on his prey.

jang town

one of the great things about having a blog is this idea that you are sharing with the world what's on your virtual bulletin board or refrigerator door. this is jang town, created by my little girl. it's where all her friends and family live and play. in jang town everyone gets along and according to ellie it's always sunny there. except when it's cold, but you still get to wear your favorite outfit. so stop in and say hi, catch a game at a&t, eat an ice cream and let your dog run free in the park. see you at the fountain.
